Gum arabic is the dried natural exudate of acacia trees. Sudan produces about 70% of the world's supply. Two types dominate: Hashab, from Senegalia (Acacia) senegal, a pale, high-quality gum prized by the food and beverage industry; and Talha, from Vachellia (Acacia) seyal, a darker, more brittle gum used in confectionery, printing and industrial applications.
Gum is hand-collected as 'tears', then cleaned, graded and exported raw, kibbled or as spray-dried powder.
Main markets: France, USA, UK, Germany, India, China — beverage, confectionery, pharmaceutical and printing industries.
